Barrie School seeks candidates for the 2020-2021 school year for the position of ?Director of Admissions?, with employment beginning on July 1, 2020. Candidates must have a minimum of five to ten years of direct work in the field of school Admissions -- ideally in an Independent School. Established in 1932, ?Barrie School is one of the most diverse and progressive independent schools in the country?. The essential focus of the school is to cultivate excellence, intrinsic motivation, and responsibility in students through an innovative and collaborative approach to education. Barrie School currently serves 300+ st?udents in three divisions: Lower School (with a Montessori approach for students Age 1 to 5th grade) and a project based approach for Middle School (6th to 8th grade) and Upper School (9th to 12th grade). HOUSING AND COMPENSATION
This position comes with a ?beautiful three-bedroom house? with a large backyard provided by the school, that will be rented to the Director significantly below market. The house is adjacent to campus on a quiet residential street. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience, and will include a generous vacation package. As with all Barrie employees, the position includes 50% tuition remission for students age 3 through 12th grade, and 25% tuition remission for enrolled toddlers.
ABOUT THE POSITION & QUALIFICATIONS
This full-time position will report to and be a critical thinking partner of the Head of School, and will be an integral member of the Senior Administrative team. We welcome candidates with a background in independent school, public school, or College / University settings. We want to be clear that as with all independent school admissions endeavors, this position will require a flexible schedule with work on evenings and weekends as dictated by the admissions and retention calendar.
In a diverse school community serving students 12 months through Grade 12 that encompasses a number of key constituencies, the Admissions Director must be a team-builder and advocate for faculty and families. As an important “face” of Barrie School, candidates should be well skilled in cross-cultural competency and be able to carefully balance building consensus with taking the initiative to lead on a variety of issues relevant to the academic program and the school overall.
In particular, the Director of Admissions will be responsible for:
Supervising and collaborating with the Admissions Team ?of three other highly committed professionals
Leading the process for New Enrollment? with the Admissions team for every element of the enrollment process, including outreach to feeder schools, open houses and tours, student visit days, organization with faculty and staff, the Admissions Committee selection process, and most importantly, enhancing the yield of highly qualified accepted students.
Organizing efforts for School-Wide Retention? with colleagues in the Lower, Middle, and Upper School.
Facilitating reporting on Barrie School’s overall enrollment efforts? to the Board of Trustees, faculty / staff, and parents.
Collaborating on progress toward enrollment and retention of foreign students? alongside the Coordinator of International Admissions and Programs.
Working closely on broad marketing strategy and social media efforts? with the Director of Communications, the Director of Development, the Head of School, and other senior administrators.
Developing a 5-year plan? to grow Admissions in collaboration with the Head of School, the Admissions Team, and other senior administrators.
