Stone Ridge is seeking a Lower School General Music Teacher to begin work on August 13, 2019.
Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. The Lower School General Music Teacher is responsible for teaching general music, in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education. S/he will teach an Orff-Schulwerk-based General Music curriculum to students in Grades 1-4 that includes movement, games, listening, literacy, and history; likewise, s/he will teach and support Middle School music electives as assigned and needed. Working closely with colleagues in the Performing Arts Department and throughout the Lower School, s/he creates and updates plans for content, quality, and continuity of curriculum. S/he actively collaborates with Learning Specialists, Educational Technologists, the Librarian, and the Lower School Counselor to develop strategies to support all students. S/he attends all faculty and employee meetings, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries.
The Lower School General Music Teacher directs a Grades 3-4 children’s choir in preparation of performances, informances, and liturgies. S/he also directs an after-school chorus elective to Lower School students once a week, or as needed, to prepare and perform for the Stone Ridge and broader community. Finally, the Lower School General Music Teacher leads the Liturgical Music for Lower School masses and prayer services and offers support to the Campus and Music Ministry Teams for All-School Liturgies.

The ideal candidate has experience teaching general music at the Lower School level in Catholic, independent, Charter, and/or public schools. S/he holds BA in a related field and has completed Orff-Schulwerk Training Level 1. S/he has piano proficiency and accompaniment skills. S/he demonstrates familiarity with/has experience teaching in the model of Understanding by Design; likewise, s/he possesses a capacity for working with a range of learning abilities. S/he demonstrates a keen collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and creativity.
