Sidwell Friends, a coeducational Quaker day school with campuses in Washington, DC, and Bethesda, MD, seeks an Interim full-time History teacher for its Middle School (grades 7 and 8). This teacher will be responsible for teaching seventh grade course offerings in United States history and eighth grade Ancient World history for the 2018-2019 school year. This is a one year only position and is benefits eligible.
Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree in History or a related field (an advanced degree is preferred} and 3-5 years of teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level. A deep understanding of both United States history, politics, and culture is required (7tth grade), as well as a similar understanding of ancient World civilizations (8th grade). An ability to teach analytical writing, critical thinking and research skills is also necessary. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to inspire and support students and will show a willingness to work collaboratively and thrive in an environment committed to academic excellence. An appreciation for young adolescents and a sense of humor are also essential.
